Frequently Asked Questions
Multiply each score by its weight percentage and add them together. Example: Homework 88% × 0.20 = 17.6, Midterm 79% × 0.30 = 23.7, Final 85% × 0.30 = 25.5, Quizzes 91% × 0.20 = 18.2. Total = 85.0%.
Formula: Required score = (Desired grade − Current grade × (1 − Final weight)) ÷ Final weight. Example: Current 83%, want 90%, final worth 30%: (0.90 − 0.83×0.70) ÷ 0.30 = (0.90 − 0.581) ÷ 0.30 = 106.3%. Above 100% means the desired grade is not achievable.
In most US colleges, D (60-69%) technically passes but earns only 1.0 GPA. Most programs require C or better for major courses. Graduate programs often require B (80%) minimum. Always check your school's specific policy.
A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, B-=2.7, C+=2.3, C=2.0, C-=1.7, D+=1.3, D=1.0, F=0.0. Multiply each course's GPA points by its credit hours, add them up, and divide by total credit hours. Use our GPA calculator for the full calculation.
